Freer (WBAP/KLIF) – An experienced rattlesnake handler was killed by one of his snakes Saturday at a south Texas rattlesnake roundup. Eugene De Leon Sr. was performing at the roundup in the town of Freer, west of Corpus Christi. He was handling rattlesnakes in front of a crowd, when one of them suddenly bit him on the shoulder. He died about 8 hours later. His family says De Leon had been performing with rattlesnakes for the last 20 years, and died doing what he loved to do.
