[LISTEN] Paxton Talks: Latest Immigration Lawsuit, Whistleblower Complaint, Election Runoff

Why does Paxton claim that Texas whistleblower laws for public employees do not apply to “elected officers?”

Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – A new lawsuit filed by the State of Texas is seeking a permanent block a new Biden administration rule that is meant to speed up processing for asylum seekers and deportations at the border. Attorney General Ken Paxton wants a the plan to allow asylum officers, rather than immigration judges, decide to grant some asylum claims at the U.S.-Mexico border. At present, asylum-seekers are turned away at the border because of Title 42. . 

Paxton spoke to Kim Lampkins by phone in the WBAP/KLIF newsroom about the new legal action. Paxton also commented on a recent move by Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov Dan Patrick to urge the Texas Supreme Court to take up a whistleblower complaint aginst Paxton and throw it out. Paxton has appealed the lawsuit claiming that under the Texas Constitution, he and other elected officers in the state are not bound by Texas whistleblower laws for public employees.

Paxton also chimed in on the upcoming AG runoff with Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush.
