UPDATED: A Dallas County jury found accused serial killer Billy Chemirmir guilty of Capital Murder Thursday afternoon in his second trial. Chemirmir was charged with killing 18 women over a two-year period.

Chemirmir was found guilty of capital murder in the March 2018 smothering of 81-year-old Lu Thi Harris. Prosecutors said that after Chemirmir and Harris were both at the same Walmart, he went to her home, killed her and stole jewelry. Prosecutors aren’t seeking the death penalty, so Chemirmir will be sentenced to life in prison without parole. He has maintained that he’s innocent

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Jury deliberations began just before 4 p.m. on Thursday in the re-trial of accused North Texas serial killer Billy Chemirmir.

Chemirmir allegedly stole from, and killed, more than a dozen elderly women. This week’s re-trial focuses on the killing of Lu Harris.

During closing arguments, the defense said the state didn’t prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt, but prosecutors insisted they did.

“This is an easy decision,” the prosecution told the jury. “Mainly because we bit so much off.”

The defense said the state didn’t prove Chemirmir’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

“It’s the highest burden in the land and they can’t get there,” defense attorneys said. “It’s impossible. Because they can’t put him there.”

The first trial ended in a hung jury after a single juror held out for hours.
