Denton County Man Sentenced to 75 Years in Prison for Bizarre 2017 Murder

ELLIS COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – An Ellis County jury convicted 52-year-old Guy Wayne Lynch of murder on Wednesday after hearing testimony about a bizarre murder in 2017.

Prosecutors told jurors that the skeletal remains of the victim, 21-year-old Tia Spearman of Lawton, Oklahoma, were found by hog trappers on July 15,2017 in a rural area outside Alma, Texas.

With the help of forensic anthropologists and scientists from the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, investigators were able to positively identify the remains as belonging to Spearman on August 15, 2017.

During that time, Spearman’s family members had reported her missing. They had not heard from her since June 11, 2017. They believed she was living in North Texas.

The jury heard details about her relationship with Lynch. The then couple had been living together in Aubrey when Tia vanished.

When investigators went to speak with Lynch at his apartment, they discovered that his two sons had also been living there while Tia resided in the unit.

Lynch’s adult son testified that sometime in the middle of June 2017, he noticed that Tia was no longer living with them.

He said his father admitted to the murder after he inquired about Tia’s whereabouts. He told jurors that his father claimed that he believed Tia had switched personalities and that demons that possessed him ordered him to shoot her in the head.

After the conversation, Guy Lynch drove to a nearby bridge and threw the murder weapon into the water.

The jurors heard testimony from Lynch’s adult son, investigators and forensic scientists.

They were also provided with cell phone records that showed that Guy Lynch and Tia exchanged about 3000 text and phone calls between January 1, 2017 and June 15, 2017. The calls and texts abruptly the day of the murder.

Guy Lynch testified at trial that he was “living a life of sin” as a former drug dealer during that time of the killing but has since found God.

The jury didn’t buy his claims and returned the guilty verdict. According to the Ellis County District Attorney’s Office, Lynch will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 30 years in prison.
