New Orleans (WBAP/KLIF) – The US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a district court in Texas to dismiss challenges to the Texas Heartbeat Act. Critics of the law have filed dozens of lawsuits trying to stop its enforcement,

The federal court’s order directs the lower court to dismiss all challenges to private enforcement provisions of the statute and to consider whether the plaintiffs have standing to challenge the law to begin with.

Gov. Ggreg Abbott called it “another legal loss” for those challenging the law, which he says is “saving babies every day.”

Back in November, six US Supreme Court justices voiced concern about the controversial enforcement mechanism in the law over how other states could replicate it.
