Body of Missing Texas National Guard Soldier Recovered at Southern Border

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The body of the Texas National Guard Soldier who was reported missing at Texas-Mexico border last Friday was recovered on Monday, according to Congressman Tony Gonzalez.

According to the Texas Military Department, Specialist Bishop Evans was assigned to Operation Lone Star and was helping migrants cross the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass when he went missing.

This morning SPC Evans’ body was found and identified by local authorities,” said Congressman Gonzales. “This young soldier made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of protecting and serving our country. He will never be forgotten.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he is heartbroken to learn of the death of SPC Evans.

“Our National Guard soldiers risk their lives every day to serve and protect others and we are eternally grateful for the way SPC Evans heroically served his state and country,” said Gov. Abbott. “I thank the members of the Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Border Patrol, and local law enforcement for working around the clock to locate this soldier. I ask that Texans join Cecilia and me in praying for the family and friends of SPC Evans as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”

According to Mansfield ISD, Bishop Evans attended Mansfield High School and graduated in 2018. He was a member of the school’s JROTC drill team and was recruited into the National Guard following high school.
