WEATHERFORD (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Residents in Parker County and beyond who are experiencing food insecurity have easier access to help.
The Tarrant Area Food Bank opened a new location in Weatherford on Thursday.
TAFB employees and volunteer have grown accustomed to serving a dramatically higher increase in clients since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020.
“We saw an 80% increase in demand during the pandemic and have settled at at 40% higher than pre-pandemic levels,” said TAFB CEO Julie Butner.
The new location allows the non-profit to serve at least seven more target counties across North Texas.
In addition to the food bank, the facility will operation as a Mission Market as well.
“We will also serve as a pantry so that if there are members of the community that need to access directly they can do that from us as well,” said Butner.
Clients have access to the facility at nights and on weekends to give a wider swath of people the opportunity to get what they need.
“It’s humbling and very gratifying to know that the work that you’re doing is impacting someone’s life immediately” said Butner.
