Lawmakers to Discuss Death Penalty ahead of Texas Mother’s Slated Execution

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas lawmakers will convene in Austin on Tuesday to discuss the death penalty ahead of the scheduled execution of Melissa Lucio.

Members of the Criminal Justice Reform Committee are focused on bringing attention to Melissa Luicio’s case. Her execution is set for the end of this month in the killing of her 2-year-old daughter. But her attorneys say the death was an accident and that evidence not shown at trial proves it.

Texas State Rep Victoria Neave told Texans during a rally for Lucio that there are three pressure points for Texans to push for clemency to be granted.

“Contact the board of partisan paroles, the Governor’s office, and the Cameron County District Attorney,” Neave stressed.

A Hulu series, ‘The State of Texas vs Melissa’ helped bring the case to the national forefront.
