Governor Abbott Signs Disaster Declaration for 16 Counties

JACKSBORO (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott held a briefing with local leaders in Jacksboro on Tuesday regarding the state’s response to tornados that tore through parts of the state on Monday.

The Governor signed a disaster declaration for 16 counties, to include Jack, Wise, Montague, Grayson, Upshur, and others.

“All of them had tornados rip through their communities,” said Abbott. “All of them are going through the same rebuilding process. By signing this disaster declaration, it will be accelerating the pace at which they will be able to operate.”

The Governor said about 80 homes in Jacksboro were severely damaged. But no one died as a result of the Jacksboro storm. The Governor called that a miracle.

“Property can be repaired,” said Governor Abbott. “Lives can not be rebuilt that have passed away.”

He credited the preparation of local leaders for the absence of fatalities.

The gyms at the Jacksboro elementary, and high school were damaged in the storm. But, the district plans to return to the classroom on Monday.

One death was reported in Grayson County as a result of Monday’s storms.
