Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott on Monday announced the adoption of new rules to ‘defund cities that defund police,‘ as spelled out in House Bill 1900 passed by the Texas legislature last year.
The new Texas Administrative Code rules subject offending cities to tax rate limitations, loss of certain tax revenues or other budget items.
H-B 1900 also targets populations over 250-thousand with loss of annexation powers for 10 years and allows the state to withhold sales taxes collected by a defunding city and give it to the Texas DPS.
If a city reverses defunding measures, the state Public Safety Office could reverse penalties.
