Mansfield Student Orion Jean Named TIME’s 2021 Kid of the Year

MANSFIELD (WBAP/KLIF News) – An 11-year-old North Texan is being recognized nationwide for his altruistic efforts.

Orion Jean of Mansfield has been named Time Magazine’s 2021 Kid of the Year.

The Alma Martinez Intermediate School sixth grader was chosen out of more than 5,000 nominees for his community service campaigns that have helped people in need.

Jean developed a Race to Kindness campaign, which he used to collect and distribute 100,000 meals to food-insecure families, toys to children in local hospitals and books for kids who didn’t have any at home.

Mansfield ISD recognized Jean for his volunteer initiatives at the district’s board meeting on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

In addition to appearing on the February 26th cover of TIME and getting some additional coverage in TIME for KIDS.

Jean will join four other Kid of the Year nominees in receiving a cash prize and the opportunity to serve as a kid reporter for TIME for Kids.
