Texas DMV Chief Resigns Amid Fake Paper Tag Debacle

(WFAA)

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A fake license plate tag debacle at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has resulted in the resignation of the agency’s chief.

The resignation of Whitney Bewster comes on the heels of the seizure of 42 fake paper plate tags in mid-January, according to the Dallas Morning News.

As part of a joint operation involving the Dallas Police Department 49 citations were issued.

Lack of security at the agency made it easy for criminals to infiltrate the system.

Deputy Executive Direct Shelly Mellott is now serving as acting interim executive director for the agency.
