DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Dallas Police are honoring a fallen officer with the unveiling of a portrait almost one year after he was killed in the line of duty.
Police say officer Mitchell Penton was struck in his patrol car and killed by a drunk driver on February 13th, 2021.
The division’s first watch commander Lt. Yancey Nelson said not a day goes by where they don’t Penton for the sacrifices he made.
“Mitchell’s beaming cute smile has also been the strongest reminder of the sacrifies of our many brothers and sisters in blue,” said Nelson.
Penton’s portrait will be hung up in the Northeast Patrol Division office alongside five officers before him who died in the line of duty since 1981.
“There’s a way we often remember Mitchell and its not solely days like this,” said Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia. “It’s every single say we put on our uniform, it’s every single day we take a criminal off the streets, every single day we answer a call for service and and every single say we look in the mirror at the end of the day and say we did our job and we did our duty,” said Garcia.
