DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Owners of sexually oriented businesses in Dallas are pushing back against a new regulation.
The Dallas City Council voted on Wednesday to require all sexually oriented businesses in the city to close daily between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
The recommendation came from Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia who told the council that reducing hours of operation at businesses like strip clubs would help reduce crime. But, employees in the industry argue their livelihood is on the line. Some call the regulation unconstitutional.
“These restrictions depend solely on the content of the expression that is going on inside these establishments,” Attorney Craig Sheils said during Wednesday’s council meeting.
A number of sexually oriented businesses in Dallas are suing the city over the regulation.
