Austin (WBAP/KLIFI) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is wants the Texas Supreme Court to toss a whistleblower lawsuit against him.
Last February four former officials with the AG’s office said they were wrongly fired after accusing Paxton of accepting bribes and other improprieties.
In October, the 3rd court of appeals allowed the lawsuit to continue
In his appeal, Paxton told the state’s high court that his agency “enjoys the right to fire its employees at will.”
Paxton also argued that he can’t be sued because the Texas Whistleblower Act was intended to protect government employees from on-the-job retaliation by another public employee.
Paxton argues, “The attorney general is not a ‘public employee but an elected officer.”
Lawyers for the whistleblowers will have the chance to respond.
