GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – The father of the teenager accused of shooting and killing three other teens inside a garland convenience store in December is telling his side of the story.
According to Garland Police, 14-year-old Abel Acosta is the suspected shooter and is still on the loose. His father, and suspected getaway driver Richard Acosta, turned himself in to Police after the killings. He is charged with Capital Murder for his alleged role in the killings.
Criminal Attorney Heath Harris represents the father. Harris told WBAP/KLIF News that his client didn’t know his son had a gun.
“We believe the evidence will show that he was merely present at the time of the shooting,” said Harris. “When the shooting went off he ducked down. He didn’t realize it was his son that was shooting and just got out of there.”
Bond for Richard Acosta is set at $1 million dollars, but his lawyers are trying to get that amount lowered.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Abel Acosta. According to Harris, the boy’s father doesn’t know where his son is.
