DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Disaster relief groups in North Texas are pitching in to assist residents of Kentucky, and neighboring states, following a string of deadly weekend tornadoes.

The devastation was widespread. 36 tornadoes were reported over the weekend in six states, with Kentucky hit especially hard.

Crews at World Vision in Grand Prairie were loading trucks with diapers, heaters, blankets, and other materials on Monday. The supplies are being taken to areas that need them most.

“We’re in the process now of pulling the product out of the racks and staging it for when the truck arrives,” said World Vision USA, Partner Coordinator, Roberta Taylor. “That way we can load it, send it out, and get wheels on the ground.”

Taylor said two trucks are already on their way to the region, and more will be loaded in days to come.

The disaster recovery group Texas Baptist Men is also sending help to Kentucky.

“In terms of tornados this is bigger than anything we’ve ever seen,” said TBM’s John Hall. “These are very difficult days in Kentucky and we want to be on the ground providing help, hope, and heling.”

Hall said crews will be sent in waves to help with cutting trees and other needs that come about. Local organizers are in contact with teams on the ground to identify where and when the most help is needed.

TBM is also accepting monetary donations for the tornado victims. Click here for more information on how to donate.
