(WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas National Guard continues to prepare for the potential arrival of more migrant caravans to the Mexico border.
Major Michael Perry said on Thursday that guard members are conducting rehearsals under ‘Operation Steel Curtain.’
“That’s where we’ve identified these areas in these different task force locations,” said Major Perry. “And we’ve been able to rehearse getting our equipment and our personnel to those areas so they can block and repel any large caravans that come in based on the area that they are at.”
The guard is working with DPS and other law enforcement to track movement of the caravans.
Meanwhile, Governor Greg Abbott held a roundtable discussion this week with local law enforcement in Midland about the ongoing surge at the southern border and its impact in Texas communities.
“The Biden administration’s border crisis doesn’t just affect Texans living along the border; it’s being felt by communities throughout Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “With an uptick in deadly drugs like fentanyl, dangerous gang activity, and human trafficking across our state, the State of Texas continues to work closely with local law enforcement to solve these challenges. Texas’ unprecedented response to secure the border and combat the crisis would not be possible without local law enforcement partners here in West Texas and across the state, and we continue to ensure they have the resources needed to keep Texans safe.”
During the discussion, Governor Abbott offered his support to local law enforcement in their efforts to mitigate the impact of the border crisis.
