Undated (WBAP/KLIF) – The electricity provider says more than 100,000 of its customers lost power. The outages occurred in a number of DFW neighborhoods, as well as in such diverse cities as Killeen and Temple south of the metroplex, and Lufkin and Tyler to the southeast. Most of the damage was caused by trees toppled by 60 mile an hour winds that pulled down power lines as they fell.
Oncor describes the winds as the “most significant weather event we’ve experienced since last February’s winter storms.”
In downtown Dallas, the intersection of Main Street and Akard was closed for a time Thursday because the powerful wind seemed determined to dismantle a 9th floor pool deck building on top of a multi-story residence, and blow the glass and steel debris down into the street. The closure was a precaution.
Dozens of flights were delayed or canceled at DFW Airport, and Love Field. It is unclear how many of the delays were caused by cross winds on the runway, or blowing debris.
