President Biden Warns More Attacks Likely as U S Drawdown Begins

UPDATE:  Officials say a U.S. military drone strike on a vehicle reported as packed with explosives and headed to the Kabul airport for another suicide bombing mission destroyed the vehicle in the city of Kabul.  Officials say they expect more attack threats as the U.S. military final pullout date of August 31rst approaches.  ISIS-K is believed responsible for the planned attacks, including a successful suicide attack on Thursday, which killed 13 American service members and 170 Afghans at the gates of the evacuation airport at Kabul.

WHITE HOUSE – WBAP/KLIF – President Biden Saturday afternoon warned Americans another attack on people trying to flee Afghanistan, and the U S troops trying to help get them out of that country, is likely within the next 24-36 hours.  An attack by suicide bomber on Thursday, later claimed to be the responsibility of ISIS-K, killed 160 Afghans, and 13 Americans working to try to help evacuate as many people from the Kabul airport as possible.

The State Department Saturday afternoon reported about 350 Americans still in Afghanistan who do want to leave the country, but have been prevented by violence and the threat of it from reaching the Kabul airport, where evacuation flights have departed the past week.  The government reports another 280 Americans as declaring they wish to stay in Afghanistan.  The White House reports 5,400 Americans have been pulled from Afghanistan since August 14th.

American miltiary personnel are beginning to leave the Kabul airport now; in the plan, the White House confirms, to fully pull out of Afghanistan by August 31rst, as was the deadline negotiated with the now-ruling Taliban and announced by President Biden.
