Texas Congressman Who Helped Police During Capitol Riot Selected for House Probe

Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas, a former Fort Bend County sheriff who was photographed trying to barricade the House chamber doors during the Capitol riot, is among 5 lawmakers chosen to sit on the select House committee formed to investigate the incident.

Nehls is credited with trying to help Capitol Police as rioters tried to enter.

Meantime, Nehls also joined the majority of house Republicans back in May in voting against a bipartisan commission to investigate the riot.

Others Republicans chosen to sit on the committee by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rodney Davis of Illinois, Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota.

The group of House Republicans who were named to the select committee huddled in McCarthy’s office for a meeting on Monday evening.

McCarthy said he carefully chose a mix of members who represent a wide swath of views inside the House GOP conference and can each bring a different area of expertise to the table because of their past jobs or current committee assignments.
