GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF)- Grand Prairie Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred at around 3pm in the 3000 block of Corn Valley Road when a Grand Prairie Motorcycle Officer attempted  to stop a driver for speeding.

According to police, the vehicle led the officer on a chase into a neighborhood and the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jose Vega of Grand Prairie,  threw contraband outside the window during the chase and entered a cul-de-sac in the 2800 block of Springdale Circle.

Police say realizing the street was a dead-end, officers stopped and attempted to verbally command the Vega to stop his vehicle. Police say Vega made a U-turn and accelerated his vehicle, ramming the police motorcycle. According to the report, the officer was “fearing for his life” and was able to get off the motorcycle in time before the crash and fired a single round through Vega’s windshield.

Police say Vega sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated a local hospital.

Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police
Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
