The Texas Department of Transportation Launches Talk, Text, Crash Campaign

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) –  Distracted driving crashes continue to be a major problem in Texas, killing hundreds of Texans every year. In 2020, about one in five crashes in Texas involved distracted drivers. Talk, Text, Crash is a new TEX DOT campaign launching statewide this weekend.

The campaign kicked off with an event at Grapevine Mills Mall in front of the Forever 21 store from 12 to 5p.m., Saturday. Today’s event will feature TXDOT’S touch-free, educational distracted driving simulator game, giving participants a real-life sense of how distractions affect driving.

In 2020 there were 4,321 crashes involving distracted driving in the DFW area. Those crashes resulted in 28 deaths and 150 serious injuries. In fort worth in 2020, the number of traffic crashes that involved distracted driving totaled 2,599. Those crashes resulted in 12 deaths and 87 serious injuries. The campaign will be stopping at cities across Texas, to give participants a real-life sense of how distractions affect driving.
