Grammy Award Winning Singer BJ Thomas, Arlington TX Resident, Dies at 78

ARLINGTON TEXAS – WBAP/KLIF – Arlington resident and Grammy award winning, Grammy Hall of Fame inductee BJ Thomas died Saturday at the age of 78, after a diagnosis of stage four lung cancer.  Thomas was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, but soon became a Texan; raised in Houston.

Widely known for his pop, country, adult contemporary and gospel music, he may be best known for the early song “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”.  Other huge hits in the 1960s and 70s include “Hey, Won’t You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song”.  In the mid 1970s, country music became the focus, with smash hits including “Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love” and “New Looks From An Old Lover”.    In the 70s and through the 80s, Thomas was cutting gospel and inspirational music, winning two Dove awards and five Grammys.

Thomas was planning to record once again last year, but the pandemic caused cancellation.

Thomas leaves behind his wife Gloria Richardson and three daughters.
