WESLACO (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott says “Operation Lone Star,” that was started in early March to address the immigration problems at the border, is working.
During a press conference Abbott said since March DPS Troopers and the Texas National Guard have made 528 arrests and more than 16,000 referrals of illegal immigrants to border patrol.
Abbott says law enforcement is also focusing on drug smuggling and fighting cartels. The operation has led to the seizure of 14 pounds of cocaine, 23 firearms and millions of dollars in currency and the arrests of nine gang members.
