DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A portion of Lamar Street in Dallas is being renamed after the late Botham Jean.
Jean was shot and killed inside his apartment on Lamar in September of 2018 by former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger who was convicted of murder.
Jean’s mother, Allison Jean, urged the Dallas City Council to approve the street name change during a virtual City Council meeting on Wednesday. The measure ultimately passed with unanimous approval.
“This street on which he chose to live and the street on which he died can serve as a lasting memory of the upstanding resident who loved Dallas so much,” Jean said. “Botham loved the City of Dallas. He was always eager to show off his active, beautiful city.”
Lamar Street from I-30 to South Central Expressway will be renamed Botham Jean Boulevard.
