DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Governor Greg Abbott publicly received the Covid-19 Vaccine to encourage Texans to do the same.
Abbott said it’s important to lead by example and he would never ask Texans to do anything he is not willing to do himself.
“We want to make sure people in Texas can have trust and confidence in this vaccine,” said Abbott.
He said in the coming months, there will be more availability for everyone to get the vaccine and he wanted to show how safe, quick and easy it is.
“There was a report that showed more than half of Texans were either unwilling or unsure about getting the vaccine because of concerns about it…and that’s why we are here today,” said Abbott.
Doctor John Hellerstedt representing Texas also got the vaccine. He called is a game changer and a “platinum standard of vaccine effectiveness”.
Texas Public Health Coalition Chair Jason V. Terk also shared his thoughts on Abbott receiving the vaccine.
“Every dose of COVID-19 vaccine administered brings Texas one step closer to the end of the pandemic. The Texas Public Health Coalition celebrates the news Gov. Greg Abbott received his first dose today and expresses appreciation for his personal leadership by example. More vaccine is on its way to Texans – first for those who need it most, and eventually for all of us. The governor’s actions are a clear signal to Texans: Be confident in taking this life-saving vaccine that will help us finally bring the pandemic to an end.
For the second week of distribution, Texas health officials said they expect to receive more than 620,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
