Grand Prairie Fire Officials Confirm at least Two Deaths After Small Plane Crashes Near Highway 360

GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF)- The Grand Prairie Fire Department has confirmed two deaths after a small plane crashed onto a service road near Highway 360 and Mayfield Near the Arlington Border.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was a four-passenger single-engine Wheeler Express CT and it crashed shortly after departing from Grand Prairie Municipal Airport at about 3 p.m.

“Preliminary reports indicate that two people were aboard,” said a FAA statement sent to WBAP/KLIF.

Grand Prairie Fire Chief Robert Fite says the plane also struck a pickup truck but that person suffered minor injuries.

“Witnesses saw the plane coming down very rapidly, struck a large light pole, hit the service road multiple times and rolled and finally came to a rest near the Sonic parking lot and immediately caught fire,” said Fite.

Fite said no one else was hurt on the ground and there’s no damage to buildings in the area.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will determine the probable cause of the accident.
