Two Homeless Men Found Dead, Murder Rate Rising in Dallas

(Asst. Chief Avery Moore, DPD)

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The killings of two homeless men in Dallas are part of a growing number of murders in the city, according to Police.

The murder rate in Dallas is currently significantly higher higher than this time last year. Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief, Avery Moore said Wednesday during a virtual call with reporters that the department’s goal when the year started was to to reduce murders by 5% but that hasn’t happened. As of Wednesday, 2020 has seen 22 more murders than this time in 2019.

“Year to date we’re at 185,” said Moore. “Last year was 163.”

Moore said two homeless men were killed this week in Dallas, less than 24 hours apart.

“They were by themselves and they were both struck with some type of blunt object,” Moore said.

The first victim was found Tuesday morning on Hampton Road. The second victim was discovered on Lawnview Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Moore encouraged the public to call Police with any information on those murders and any other suspicious activity.
