2021 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Canceled

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – For the first time since 1943 at the height of World War II, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has canceled show for 2021.

Officials consulted with numerous infectious disease and public health officials who indicated that the show, which boasts more than 1.2 million guests, exhibitors and competitors gathering at the Will Rogers Complex, would rank as very high risk for further COVID-19 spread.

They deemed it could potentially impact communities and healthcare systems in Fort Worth and beyond the North Texas.

Matt Brockman is with the Rodeo and said the safety of participants and patrons came first.

“When we look at what’s at risk and that’s a significant spread of COVID-19…taken into consideration of the unique nature of our event it was a decision while very sad is one that is also very prudent,” he said.

Brockman said it was a tough decision to make.

“Our executive committee met and, you know, the gravity of this decision…the weight of this decision was heavy on each one of those men and women,” he said.

Rodeo officials are urging everyone to do their part to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Organizers are planning for the show to go on in  2022.
