(WBAP/KLIF) – Three North Texas cities are partnering to assist local families and restaurants in need.
‘Team Up to Fight Hunger’ is a collaboration of Sachse, Wylie, Murphy and area community partners to provide food to people and families in need while supporting local restaurants. As part of the program, families receive vouchers after completing a screening process with participating area food banks. Families can then take the vouchers to participating local restaurants, who have curated special menus for the families to choose from when ordering their meals. Each voucher is valued at $40 and provides a meal for a family of four.
Families can go online for the latest updates to restaurants in the area and to check what each restaurant is serving for its customized meal. The program helps to feed families, support local restaurants and assists local food banks who have all been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
To date, several nonprofit organizations supplied vouchers to more than 150 families for a hot, hearty meal provided by area restaurants. While personal and community donations support the program’s goals, additional funding is provided by the Sachse Economic Development Corporation, Credit Union of Texas, the Wylie Economic Development Corporation and the Wylie Community Christian Care Center.
“The City of Sachse and the Sachse EDC proudly support the Team Up to Fight Hunger program by providing help for local businesses impacted by COVID-19,” said the Director of Sachse Economic Development Corporation Leslyn Blake.
Anyone interested in making a $25 donation or serving as a sponsor for Team Up to Fight Hunger should visit the website for more information.
“Not only are we boosting our restaurants and feeding clients, but we are helping some of them emotionally,” said Mary Warkentine from the Wylie Community Christian Care Center. “They were thrilled to get a restaurant meal they don’t have to cook.”
