Broadcasting Legend Phyllis George Passes Away at 70

(WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- Former Miss America, CBS sports caster, and Denton native Phyllis George passed away Thursday in Kentucky after a long battle with a blood disorder. She was 70.

She attended the University of North Texas in the 70’s and was crowned Miss USA in 1971 before she went to begin her legendary broadcasting career on CBS’s the NFL today,

President Trump took to twitter to express his condolences saying,

“Phyllis George was a great person and a true pioneer for women in television, the NFL couldn’t have made a better ‘pick’ when they chose Phyillis to be the first women to represent them. Also, a wonderful First Lady of Kentucky as the wife of Gov. John Y. Brown….”
