Accused Serial Killer Returned to Dallas More than 20 Years after First Alleged Murder

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – An accused serial killer is back in Dallas more than 20 years after his first alleged murder.

According to the FBI, 42-year-old Jose Sifuentes was wanted for capital murder in Dallas County. He was returned to the United States following his extradition from Mexico this week.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office Northern District of Texas said Wednesday that Sifuentes, who was wanted for federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, was located in San Vicente de Gonzalez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and detained by the Fiscalia General de la Republica Interpol on April 25, 2019. Sifuentes was then transported to Mexico City for extradition proceedings. He was escorted back to Dallas by two agents with the FBI’s Legal Attaché Office in Mexico City and arrived on January 8, 2020 at DFW Airport. FBI Dallas special agents then transferred him to the custody of the Dallas Police Department.

On February 15, 1998, Jose Sifuentes allegedly murdered Maria De Lourdes Perales. Sifuentes was identified as the perpetrator through DNA, eyewitness accounts and other evidence. Sifuentes was charged with capital murder, but fled to Mexico after bonding out of jail. He has been in hiding since approximately 2003. He was later linked two to other murders.

The FBI Dallas Violent Crime Task Force, FBI Legat Mexico City, Fiscalia General de la Republica Interpol, and the Dallas Police Department worked collaboratively to arrest Sifuente. His return was funded by the United States Government’s “Project Welcome Home,” which provides funding to assist in the transportation of federal fugitives to the United States.
