Denton Police Officer Shot During Traffic Stop Show Signs of Improvement

Denton, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The Denton police officer shot during traffic stop faces long road to recovery.

The department says Urbano Rodriguez is now alert, in stable condition and showing some signs of improvement after being shot in the head and leg over a week ago.

Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon is “getting incrementally better everyday, and doing things that they didn’t think he’d be able to do this soon.” Dixon also said that there are still lots of unanswered questions regarding Rodriguez’s long term health.

The department will release significant updates as they occur, as they don’t anticipate a dramatic change in his condition in the coming days or weeks.

Meantime two Denton restaurants – Bone Daddy’s and BJ’s Brewhouse — held fund-raisers for the officer Wednesday.

 

Among items sold were specially designed hats bearing Rodriguez’s initials.

The community has raised more than $30,000 since the shooting. according to WFAA-TV.

33-year old Antwon Pinkston is charged capital murder in the October 29th shooting.

Meantime, during Tuesday night’s Denton City Council meeting, Police Chief Dixon said that Officer Rodriguez had come a long way since he was first shot.
