DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – An NBA legend will soon have a street named after him in Dallas.
A portion of Olive Street that runs in front of the American Airlines Center will be renamed “Nowitzki Way” in honor of recently retired Dallas Mavericks Star Dirk Nowitzki. The city council officially approved the name change Wednesday.
Councilman David Blewett said it’s important to acknowledge athletes who reflect positively on the city.
“We need to recognize the benefit they have to our city,” said Blewett.
Councilman and “Mavs Fan for Life” Adam Medrano led the charge on the name change.
“I’m a long time ticket holder and yes I own every Dallas Mavericks bobblehead ever made,” Medrano said.
The name change takes effect November 24.
