Plans Being Finalized to Remove Crane from Dallas Apartment Complex

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The apartment complex condemned following a crane collapse last month now has clearance to remove the crane from the building.

Officials with OSHA said Thursday the investigation into the collapse that left one woman dead, and more than 500 residents displaced, has reached a point where the crane can be removed.

“OSHA has released the crane to be removed safely by the parties involved,” Juan Rodriguez, U.S. Department of Labor said.

Management with the Elan City Lights Apartments said late Thursday that a plan to remove the crane is being finalized.

“When we have that finalized plan, we will update you at that time. We will also let you know when we can begin accessing some of these areas to assess their condition and potentially recover additional resident belongings and vehicles,” management said in a Facebook post directed toward former residents. “Portions of the building are still inaccessible, and any potential recovery efforts in those areas will not begin until the crane has safely been removed.”

Former residents, who still haven’t retrieved all of their stuff, have planned a community meeting for Saturday.
