Private Security to Monitor Katy Trail in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – As the Dallas Police Department continues to struggle with a shortage of officers, some local organizations and entities are taking security in their own hands.

The Friends of Katy Trail posted on its website that they’re hiring two private security officers to monitor the popular trail in Uptown during the busiest times.

WBAP spoke with joggers along the trail who said they appreciate the group looking out for their safety.

“I know there’s been incidents in the past over the years. So, adding more security is great,” said one man.

“The more safety the better,” said one jogger.

Last November, Dallas Police issued a safety warning to residents who use Katy Trail about a group of armed men who had been robbing joggers on the trail.

They urged anyone exercising to not wear headphones and be extra cautious of their surroundings at night.

The organization said the guards will patrol week nights from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on weekends from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
