WATCH: Fort Worth Police Release Body Cam Video in Officer Involved Shooting

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – According to Fort Worth Police, Officers followed protocol in Sunday’s shooting that killed 20-year-old JaQuavion Slaton.

Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus said Thursday that Slaton was shot while hiding from Officers in a pickup truck while they were serving a warrant. The department released portions of the body cam video, which shows several Officers surrounding the truck before multiple gunshots were fired.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, one of the gunshots was self-inflicted. It’s not known yet if that shot was intentional.

Fort Worth Police Association President Manny Ramirez said these type of investigations take time.

“You have to understand,” said Ramirez. “With the demands for the release of the body camera and all off those things, all the people that need to see those may not have had a chance to review them yet.”

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price acknowledged Thursday that there is fear and anger among some in members of the Fort Worth community.

“The events that unfolded on Sunday are tragic no matter where you fall on this issue,” said Mayor Price. “A 20-year-old man is dead, much too young with his entire life in front of him. We continue to support our outstanding Fort Worth Police Officers, that go above and beyond every single day to keep this community safe, doing their jobs to keep criminals off the street. Let’s be clear, on Sunday night they were serving a warrant on an individual wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.”
