GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News) – Hundreds of people gathered at The Potter’s House in Dallas to honor the life of a fallen officer who was killed in the line of duty last week.
Officer A.J. Castaneda lost his life Friday when he was hit by a car while running radar on the George Bush Turnpike.
Before Thursday’s funeral, dozens of people gathered at the Grand Prairie Police Department to pay their respects as the funeral procession passed by.
Jamie Reveles said she and her husband came because Officer Castaneda impacted her daughter’s life.
“Officer A.J. actually directed traffic at my daughter’s school at Isle Texas. We saw him every morning at morning traffic. I just felt it was right to come,” she said.
Greg Wyrykowski also attended and said he was shocked last week when he heard about Castaneda’s death.
“You see them all the time standing on the side of the streets. You always think it’s dangerous and then you see that happen and it’s like heartbreaking ya know?” he said.
At the funeral, many people spoke about Officer Castaneda’s character.
Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye told the crowd of mourners Officer Castaneda was ” selfless, a great officer and person,” he said.
Castaneda is survived by two children.
