DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- The DFW Metroplex suffered severe weather Sunday afternoon with over hundreds of thousands of power outages and hundreds of downed trees. The storm even caused a crane to fall onto a Deep Ellum Apartment, killing one and injuring five.
Joey Picca with the National Weather Service says they reported 71 MPH wind gusts out of Dallas Love Field Airport but no indication of a tornado touching down.
“Wide spread strong to damaging winds in Dallas and Tarrant County, from our indication it just appears to be a straight line damaging wind event,” he said.
The City of Dallas Reports 41% of traffic signals across the City have been affected, 496 signals have no communication, were damaged, or otherwise inoperable and are the highest priority for repair. 168 signals are flashing red; these signals will need to be reset, but are still active. The city urges drivers to travel with caution, and to treat flashing signals as all-way stops. Extra crews are being brought in to assist with debris pick up and residents can call 311 or use the OurDallas App to report storm debris and downed limbs in roadways.
Also, thousands of North Texans will be filing insurance claims following the storm. Mark Hanna with the Insurance Council of Texas said if you have to make temporary repairs keep all your receipts so you can be reimbursed. “Take still photos, take video…you want to make sure you don’t miss anything and send it to your insurance adjuster so they can give you advice on what to do next,” he said.
Hanna urges people to cover up any holes to avoid further damage from rain, etc.
