Mexican Import Tariffs Called Off

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Friday evening, President Trump tweeted a deal has been reached with Mexico to avoid imposing threatened tariffs as of Monday.   Negotiations have been underway for some time as President Trump pushed Mexico to do more to stop the flow of Central American migrants traveling through that country to reach U S borders.

The president says Mexico “has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of migration through mexico, and to our Southern Border”

No details on what measures Mexico will take to stop the flow of migrants have yet been announced.  Thursday, it was reported Mexico intended to send 6,000  troops to its southern border to head off the threat of U.S. tariffs over its lax border policies.  The troops would likely stop the flow of migrants at Mexico’s border with Guatemala.

As threatened, the Trump import taxes would start at, then rise by five per cent each month on products including beer, cars, tequila, and foods.  American consumers were expected to spend more for everyday goods including produce and other foods from Mexico if those tariffs had taken effect
