DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Chief is clarifying comments made this week about an increase in crime in the city.
Chief Renee Hall was speaking with reporters about a recent uptick in violent crime in the city, when she said the Police Department can’t arrest its way out of the problem.
“There are socio-economic issues that are related to crime in this city,” Chief Hall said.
The Chief said that people who return from prison and can’t find a job are often “forced to commit violent crimes.”
The comments drew backlash from former Officers, criticizing Hall’s approach. She later clarified her comments say “there is no excuse for crime.”
DPD @ChiefHallDPD clarifies earlier comments—“There are individuals in the city who have returned from prison, who cannot find a job, who are not educated. In those instances, those individuals are forced to commit violent acts.” Response below..@570KLIF @WBAP247NEWS pic.twitter.com/nbSab1crMC
