MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The McKinney Fire Department evacuated several businesses, including a Pets Mart, at a strip mall along 75 and Highway 380 Tuesday morning.
Officials said a crew had accidentally cut a six-inch gas line and there was a strong smell of gas in the area.
When firefighters arrived, they immediately assisted people and animals at Pets Mart in getting out safely. Some of the animals were placed in cars that were parked in the shade, windows cracked and the AC turned on.
“There’s a lot of gas and they just want to be safe. So, they asked us to step back with our cameras and cell phone because it could an ignition source,” said the McKinney Fire Department’s Merit Ossian.
Atmos crews were called to the site to repair the leak. There’s no word on how long the repairs will take or when the property will be declared safe.
