Harris County Medical Examiner Confirms Remains Found in Arkansas Friday Belong to 4-Year-Old Maleah Davis

HOUSTON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – It’s a tragic end to a case that pulled at the heart strings of Texans and gained national attention.

The Harris County Medical Examiner has confirmed the human remains found in Arkansas Friday belong to 4-year-old Maleah Davis of Houston.

According to the Associated Press, authorities found Maleah’s remains near a freeway outside of Hope after Derion Vence, the man charged in connection with her disappearance, allegedly told Quanelle X, a Houston community activist, he had dumped her body there.

Maleah had been reported missing May 5th.

Vence had initially told investigators Maleah had been abducted by three men.

Police said Vence claimed the men knocked him out after his car had broken down and when he woke up, his infant son was still with him but Maleah was gone.

They said during their investigation, Vence’s story changed several times and detectives found blood evidence in his apartment and signs of decomposition were found in the trunk of his car, which he had reported stolen.

The cause and manner of Maleah’s death have not been determined.

Vence has been behind bars since May 11th on a tampering with evidence charge.
