GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF) – The Grand Prairie Police Department has arrested and charged a woman for allegedly burning her five-year-old stepdaughter.
According to Grand Prairie Police, on Monday, May 13 Officers responded to a report of a child that had been burned and was in need of medical treatment. The child’s stepmother stated to officers that the injury was the result of an accident while lighting a candle, though Detectives found inconsistencies in the stepmother’s version of events.
The stepmother ultimately confessed to Detectives that she intentionally poured rubbing alcohol on the child’s face and used a lighter to set the alcohol on fire.
“She said she lit the child on fire to punish her for yelling,” said Detective Greg Parker.
Jiminez was arrested this week.
According to Parker, the child’s father was not present at the time the injury occurred and is not considered a suspect. Child Protective Services removed the injured child and a younger sibling from the home the night of the report. Both children are safe with family.
The stepmother, identified as 20-year-old Dalia Jimenez of Grand Prairie, is charged with felony Injury to a Child. She has bonded out from the Grand Prairie Detention Facility.
