Slain DART Officer Posthumously Honored In Washington

Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – President Donald Trump honored 14 public safety officers for their acts of heroism with the Medal of Valor on Wednesday at the White House, with honorees a fallen Dallas officer killed during a mass shooting at a police protest march.

Slain DART Officer Brent Thompson was killed in the line of duty during a police ambush on June 7, 2016. Gunfire rang out as an otherwise peaceful anti-police brutality protest march was wrapping up.

The widow and parents Officer thompson were on hand for the ceremony.

In extended comments during the ceremony, the President said, in part:

“To the heroes we honor today this afternoon, we express the gratitude and pride of our nation for your immortal acts of courage,” Trump said during a presentation ceremony in the East Room.

The award is the highest national honor given to US public safety officers, such as law enforcement and firefighters.

Attorney General WIlliam Barr also made remarks during the ceremony,  “Every Medal of Valor recipient has confronted life threatening danger, and each one has stood their ground for our safety,” 

Dart Police Sargent Richard Tear was also in attendance.

On that fateful day, June 7, 2016, 4 Dallas Police officers, and two civilians were also killed.
The perpetrator was killed by police. Max Johnson’s rampage was sparked by the police killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, which had occurred in the preceding days.
