Police Work to Connect Weekend Murder with Other Violent Cases Against Transgender Women

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is looking into a possible connection between three recent cases involving violence against transgender women.

Muhlayshia Booker was seen on cell video last month being attacked by a mob of people outside a Dallas apartment complex. Last Saturday, she was shot and killed. Police said after the shooting it’s not believed to be related to the April beating.

Investigators said Tuesday that another transgender woman was murdered in Dallas in October. A second transgender woman was stabbed in April, but survived.

“We are working with the victim so that we can get any further information about the suspect out to the public,” Major Vincent Weddington said.

Police said each case had a connection to the East Dallas intersection of Spring Avenue and Lagow Street.

“Through the course of these investigations it had been determined that two of the victims got into a car with someone,” said Major Weddington. and the other victim allowed someone to get into their car.”

DPD is holding a LGBTQ Town Hall Meeting this Thursday at the Resource Center in Dallas for an evening of conversation around LGBTQ inclusive community outreach efforts.
