Dallas Mayor, Councilmembers Endorse Rep. Eric Johnson in Runoff Election

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and seven Dallas City Council members are endorsing State Representative Eric Johnson for Mayor. Rawlings will leave office under term limits this summer.

The current Mayor said Tuesday that Johnson’s opponent, Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs, has a track record of being divisive.

“It’s just practical history of what has happened,” said Rawlings. “And Mr. Johnson has been able to work across the aisles and across this city on important issues.”

Standing behind the Mayor Tuesday at a downtown Dallas hotel for the announcement of the endorsement was Dallas Mayor Pro-Tem Casey Thomas, outgoing Councilman Ricky Callahan, Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates, Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold, City Councilman Adam McGough, Councilman Lee Kleinman, and Councilman Tennell Atkins.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t send a signal to the people investing in Dallas that somehow they are going to have issues at City Hall,” said Rawlings. “That there’s going to be animosity.”

The runoff election between Johnson and Griggs is set for June 8.
