Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – In a plea deal, a former North Texas doctor who prosecutors say prescribed unnecessary prescriptions for powerful painkillers has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Authorities say the prescriptions led to at least seven deaths.
58-year old Howard Diamond faced up to life in prison. He was the lead physician at the Diamond Back Pain and Wellness Center in Sherman when he was arrested in July 2017
Authorities alleged that, starting in 2010, he conspired with others to write unnecessary prescriptions for fentanyl, hydrocodone and morphine. Seven people died as a result of his prescriptions, including one person in McKinney.
Other deaths occurred in Abilene, Sulpher Springs and four cities in Oklahoma.
