DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- The Dallas Police Association announces its endorsement for Scott Griggs in the runoff election for Mayor.

DPA President Mike Mata says during his time on the council, Griggs has been one of the strongest allies for public safety.

“He understands the crisis that we’re in as far as the increase in crime and lowering of man power..he’s been here for the last four years fighting for the citizens of Dallas and city workers and there’s no doubt in my mind he’ll continue to do that,” said Mata.

Mata said he’s lead efforts to increase officer pay and hire more officers to patrol neighborhoods with higher crime rates.

“He’s lead us through very serious situations with pension issues, retention issues and pay…through all those battles he’s been their for us, he’s definitely qualified and we think he has the City of Dallas’ best interest at heart,” he said.

Griggs faces Eric Johnson who’s backed by the business elite, much like former Mayor Mike Rawlings.

Early voting runs from May 28 to June 4th Election Day is June 8.
